Description

About The Book : There is a passage in the Vedas, which, as translated by Sir W. Jones according to the gloss of Sankara, reads thus: — "God, having created the four classes, had not yet completed his work; but, in addition to it, lest the Royal and Military Class should become insupportable through their power and ferocity, he produced the transcendent body of law; since law is the king of kings, far more powerful and rigid than they: nothing can be mightier than law, by whose aid, as by that of the highest monarch, even the weak may prevail over the strong." This is the true conception of law according to the Hindus: it is not a mere fiction to aid the purposes of interpretation, but is an article of belief among nearly 150 millions of human beings that dwell in Hindustan. Menu describes a kinor as created by "the ruler of this universe," "forming him of eternal particles drawn from the substance of Indra, Pavana, Yama, Surya, of Agni and Yaruna, of Chandra and Cuvera." "And since a king was composed of particles drawn from those chief guardian deities, he consequently surpasses all mortals in glory."
