London, Simpkin, Marshall & Co., 1880. 8vo (20.7 x 13.5 cm). 285, xv pp.; 15 lithographed plates of which two in chromolithography and six (partly) hand-coloured, tissue-guarded. Contemporary half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt title. = Rare, early volume of this series, which is still being published. Many illustrations are of minerals, a few are maps. Plate order is irregular [I-II, V-VI, III-IV, XIV-XV, VIII-IX, XII, VII, X-XI, XIII], but all are in the 'right' place. In the rear is a list of books in the Society's library, and a list of new corresponding members, including Von Cotta, Geinitz, Von Kobell, Sandberger, and Zirkel. Von Cotta, however, died soon thereafter, as noted in the Society's minutes. Slight wear to spine foot, otherwise a very good, clean, unmarked copy.
