The aim of the book is to help in teaching history. This little discourse tells the Story of Lanka as briefly and simply as it could be possible. The author has tried to omit everything that was not essential to a right understanding of the course of events, and have borne in mind always that pupils in the primary stage cannot be expected to show the same interest and intelligence as ‘children of a larger growth’. And any capable teacher should be able to separate the legendary from what is purely historical. The Tamil invasion during the reign of Vikrama Bahu III and at the time of the other rulers subsequently have discussed when the Portuguese came to Ceylon. The writer has expressed his views about the reign of different rulers of Lanka and highlights the darkness of the period. The book is the product of the extensive study of Lanka. The subject is quite interesting to make it good for all.
