Description

LIMITED EDITION, one of only 1500 hand-numbered sets designed by Frederick Warde and printed under his supervision. Illustrated by George Cruikshank with faithfully reproduced sketches of his in colour never before printed along with collotype reproductions of his original etchings for the first edition. Small 4to, publisher's original tan smooth morocco richly embossed in blind on both covers in an elaborate theatrical design featuring the likenesses of Punch and Judy, the spine lettered in blind. Preserved in the publisher's rarely retained original glassine jacket and mottled-paper-covered folding chemise and slipcase. xxiii, 61, [1] pp. An absolutely perfect copy, pristine and as-new inside and out, the book is flawless and even the rare glassine is very fine, still supple and fresh with just some trivial wear and a small closed tear with no loss, the slipcase also very fine and fresh and appearing as new.
