LIMITED EDITION SIGNED BY THE ILLUSTRATOR, GEORGE GROSZ, one of only 1500 hand-numbered copies printed. 4to, in the publisher's original binding of black cloth lettered on the spine in gilt, and in the rarely preserved original glassine wrapper and with the original purple cloth-covered gilt lettered slipcase. xi, 221, [1] pp. A beautifully preserved, exceptionally nice copy, the glassine in remarkably well preserved condition with just a little chipping at the edges and spine tips, the glassine is scarcely encountered and rare in such complete condition, the slipcase is very fine as well.

Edizione: limited edition of one of the great new york authors, signed by its illustrator. while porter (who published under several pseudonyms but is mostly remembered as o. henry) was not a native to new york, he relocated there after being released from prison in ohio and wrote 381 stories while living in the city. his wit, characterization, and plot twists were adored by his readers. twenty of them are collected here, including his most famous- 'the gift of the magi'.<br> george grosz was an important german artist who had made fame for himself in europe for his drawings and paintings of berlin life in the 1920s. bitterly anti-nazi, he emigrated to the united states in 1933, where he exhibited regularly and taught for many years at the art students league of new york.
