Sm. folio, First Edition, with frontispiece in photogravure (original tissue guard present), title in red and black, 8 fine plates in photogravure (all original tissue guards present), 2 plates in colour, and 50 illustrations in the text, free endpapers very lightly browned; original half vellum gilt, blue-grey boards, gilt back, gilt top, uncut, covers very lightly age-marked else a very good, bright, clean, crisp copy. Millais' sojurn in the Highlands was partly for the purpose of collecting specimens for his well-known portrayals of surface-feeding and diving ducks.
