Description
Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - The first volume of the Letters of Saint Augustine covers the period from his retreat at Cassiciacum in Italy in the fall of 386 or the spring of 387 to height of the Donatist controversy in 408 or 409. The volume contains a total of 100 letters. Sixteen of these were written by others: three by Nebridius, five by Paulinus of Nola, five by Jerome of Bethlehem, one by Nectarius, a citizen of Calama in Numidia, one by Maximus of Madaura, and one by Publicola, a Catholic lay man and Roman senator. One Letter was written by Paulinus of Nola to Romanian, Augustine's wealthy patron, on the occasion of Augustine's being ordained coadjutor bishop of Hippo. Another was written by Paulinus to Augustine' s close friend, Alypius, who is also listed as coauthor with Augustine of six of the letters. ISBN 1565481631
