Con 32 tavole, alcune impresse anche al verso, ospitanti 44 illustrazioni a colori, per la maggior parte a piena pagina, che raffigurano opere di Shepherd aventi per soggetto gli animali della Savana: sono ritratti elefanti, ghepardi, leoni, ippopotami, impala, gnu, bufali, zebre, giraffe, rinoceronti, kudu, coccodrilli.
