In-8 (280x200mm) of [2]ff. [58]pp. suite of [15]ff. [2]ff.. Half-moroccan brown with gold fillet between the leather and the paper of the cover. Flat spine with gold title piece framed by a gold chain motif. White endpapers and guards. Cover preserved. Recent binding executed by the Ateliers Boichot.
Illustrated cover, title frontispiece, 14 compositions by Georges Rochegrosse in and out of text intaglio hand-colored and sometimes enhanced with gold and a suite in black of all the compositions.
The original edition of the Golden Chain appeared twice in the Chronicle of Paris on May 28 and June 1, 1837. Then it was part of the volume A Tear of the Devil in 1849 and finally in 1845 Théophile Gaultier added it to his short stories.
Limited edition of 200 copies signed by the artist
