This monograph was prepared to accompany the exhibition in Courtrai, Belgium at the Musee Broel Courtrai from September 15, 2006 to January 7, 2007. The first substantial work on the De Coene Freres design firm founded in 1905 by Joseph De Coene, it lasted until 1977. They first began producing furniture in the art nouveau style and continued working in an art deco mode until World War II. After the war they rebuilt their factory and by the early 1950's were producing furniture and retailing it internationally through Knoll.
