2 vols., 8vo., First Edition, with 61 plates on 36; original cloth (red/blue respectively), gilt backs, a very good, clean set in dustwrapper, the latter lightly age-soiled, and chipped and creased at extremities. The first volume covers the author's formative years as trainee solicitor, Grub Street hack and playwright. The second volume includes his war service, concentrating on the year 1941 aboard CAMPANULA, which led eventually to his successful career as a writer, and the finest novel of the Royal Navy in WWII.
