8vo., with fine engraved portrait frontispiece, some light textual age-staining; handsomely bound in full blue crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, leather label, hand-made endpapes, ribbon marker, decorative cloth gilt from front cover and backstrip preserved and mounted on new and separate preliminary leaves, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. With 32pp publisher's catalogue (dated August 1875) bound in at end. First published in 1852, Allen's well-known life of Nelson is notable in that he was the last biographer to claim personal acquaintance with some who had known Nelson personally.
