Con antiporta e 16 tavole silografate a due tinte f.t., raffiguranti villaggi, montagne, alberi e scene di vita (la valanga, boscaioli, una festa, un funerale, cacciatori di camosci, ecc.). Prima traduzione inglese, dello stesso anno dell'originale tedesca (''Die Alpen in Natur und Lebensbildern''), eseguita da Leslie Stephen, uno dei più provetti alpinisti dell'era vittoriana e romanziere di successo (il suo ''The Playground of Europe'', pubblicato nel 1871, fu un vero e proprio bestseller della letteratura alpina).
