8vo (193x142 mm). [4], 182, [2] pp. Illustrated. Editor's printed wrappers (spine skillfully repaired). Manuscript dedication in the preliminary leaves: “May you mix them well – but never mix them Sincerely yours Rodolphe [?] Hotel Georges V Paris”. A good copy.
First edition, printed in 26 copies (A to Z) for the author, 300 numbered copies on hand-made paper and 700 copies on cream vellum paper (the present), of this classic work on the art of mixing cocktails, displaying the unique bartending skills of Frank Meier, head barman at the Ritz Bar in Paris from 1921 until his death in 1947. The book, which opens with an ode to the Ritz Bar, one the world's first hotel bars frequented by celebrities and writers ,contains over 300 recipes grouped in cocktails, mixed drinks, and miscellaneous drinks. The final sections are devoted to sandwiches, wines, and useful formulas. One of Meier's best-known cocktails was the “Rainbow”, consisting of anisette, mint, yellow chartreuse, cherry brandy, kummel, green chartreuse and cognac.
