Ritratto di Giulio Cesare su una moneta, con scritte sul bordo. Pubblicato e forse inciso a Colonia da Joos Gietleughen, deriva dalla xilografia di Hubert Goltzius (1559). La stampa di Hubert Goltzius fa parte di un libro sugli imperatori da Giulio Cesare fino a Carlo V e suo fratello Ferdinando, Les images presque de tous les empereurs depuis C. Julius Caesar jusques a Charles .V. et Ferdinandus son frere, pourtraites au vif, prinses des medailles anciennes: non comme elles ont esté evulguées par cy devant, ains au vrai et par tresgrande cure et diligence. Ensemble aussy leur vie et leurs faitz tant bons que mauvais, depaintz du pinceau historique stampato nel 1559. A Joos Gietleughen si attribuisce anche l'intaglio dei chiaroscuri che illustrano la pubblicazione. Il soggetto deriva da una moneta romana, un denario, classificato da Cohen. La moneta fu coniata dalla zecca di Roma nel 44 a.C., anno in cui il Senato aveva autorizzato Cesare, primo caso nella storia romana, a porre la propria immagine sul dritto di una moneta. Jocodus de Curia (notizie intorno al 1555), noto anche come Regnirer Curia o Joos Gietleughen, era un editore fiammingo attivo ad Anversa e Colonia. Pubblicò e forse incise xilografie a chiaroscuro su disegni di Frans Floris. Identificato da Oberhuber con Joos Gietleughen, che van Mander cita come collaboratore di Hubert Goltzius. Impressione molto buona, stampata su carta vergata coeva, rifilata al rame, in buone condizioni. Rara. Bibliografia N. The subject is derived from the Roman coin, a denarius, classified by Cohen. The coin was minted by the Rome mint in 44 B.C., the year in which the Senate had authorized Caesar, the first case in Roman history, to place his own image on the obverse of a coin. Jocodus de Curia (fl. 1555) know also as Regnirer Curia or Joos Gietleughen was a Flemish publisher active in Antwerp and Cologne. He published and possibly cut chiaroscuro woodcuts after designs of Frans Floris. Identified by Oberhuber with Joos Gietleughen, who is mentioned by van Mander as having worked with Hubert Goltzius.
