Mappa Mondo o vero Carta Generale del Globo Terrestre

Carta geografica del mondo basata sul modello del cartografo francese Nicolas Sanson. Tratta dal Mercurio Geografico, raccolta di carte edita a Roma tra il 1660 ed il 1730 dalla tipografia de Rossi, la cui prima stesura si deve a Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. Nel corso degli anni l’atlante fu arricchito da un numero sempre maggiore di carte; questo planisfero terrestre è presente sin dalla prima stesura dell'atlante, e non verrà mai sostituito nelle successive edizioni curate prima da Domenico de Rossi e poi dal figlio Filippo. A differenza delle precedenti mappe olandesi, quella di Sanson si concentra sulle informazioni geografiche e idrografiche, tralasciando completamente ogni aspetto decorativo; lo spazio attorno ai due emisferi viene lasciato intenzionalmente vuoto. Nicolas Sanson, il più famoso cartografo francese della storia moderna, fu cosmografo al servizio di Luigi XIV, re di Francia; dotò le sue mappe delle più recenti informazioni geografiche e delle incisioni più belle e acute del periodo. Il Cartes Generales de Toutes les Parties du Monde rappresenta il più importante prodotto della cartografia commerciale francese del diciassettesimo secolo. Le carte del Sanson, finemente copiate ed intagliate dai maggiori incisori dell'epoca tra i quali lo stesso Giovan Battista Falda, Giorgio Widman e altri, costituivano la base del Mercurio Geografico, raccolta cartografica che ' contempla come "corpus" principale ' la grande produzione del geografo Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. Incisione in rame, coloritura coeva dei contorni, leggere ossidazioni, per il resto in ottimo stato di conservazione. Taken from the Mercurio Geografico, a collection of maps published in Rome between 1660 and 1730 by the de Rossi typography, whose first edition is due to Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. Over the years the atlas was enriched by an increasing number of maps; this terrestrial planisphere is present since the first issue of the Atlas, and will never be replaced in subsequent editions by Domenico de Rossi and then by his son Filippo. Unlike previous Dutch maps, that of Sanson focuses on geographic and hydrographic information, completely omitting any decorative aspect; the space around the two hemispheres is intentionally left empty. Nicolas Sanson, the most famous French cartographer of modern history, was a cosmographer in the service of Louis XIV, King of France; he equipped his maps with the latest geographical information and the most beautiful and acute engravings of the period. The Cartes Generales de Toutes les Parties du Monde represents the most important product of seventeenth-century French commercial cartography. The maps of Sanson, finely copied and engraved by the greatest engravers of the time including Giovan Battista Falda, Giorgio Widman and others, formed the basis of Mercurio Geografico, cartographic collection that contemplates as the main "corpus" the great production of the geographer Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola.
