Bulino, 1636.Magnifico esemplare, impresso su carta vergata coeva, rifilato alla linea marginale, occasionali fioriture, nel complesso in ottimo stato di conservazione.Della serie: “Ouvrage Rare et Nouveau”, di Denis (Daniel) Boutemie, composta dal frontespizio e 19 incisioni a bulino.Nato a Beauvais, Daniel Boutemie, orafo di corte, medaglia e incisore, è documentato a Parigi dal 1628 al 1636. A parte una medaglia con ritratto, sono note soltanto poche sue opere e la sua attività di orafo è noto solo dalle prove archivistiche. Due serie di stampe di Boutemie, pubblicate nel 1636 dalla casa editrice parigina di Balthasar Moncornet in Rue des Gobelins, forniscono così importanti informazioni sullo stile di questo artista sfuggente.Come indica il frontespizio, “Ouvrage Rare et Nouveau / Contenant plusieurs desseins de merveilleuse / leisure sous diverses caprices et gentilesses / rappresentaes in theustustrieuse decoupure d'un / chappeau, Inventée par D, Boutemie Orfevre ordinaire du Roy, pour the Invention de/ son cabinet… ", è inteso come un libro di modelli per" Orfevres, Graveurs, Ciseleurs, Sculpteurs, Menusiers et au- tres "(Gioiellieri, incisori, scultori, ebanisti e altri) e mostra una straordinario varietà di fantastiche e bizzarre creazioni ornamentali Il set completo è un prezioso e raro documento dell’incisione francese della prima metà del XVII secolo - il cosiddetto periodo dei moschettieri - e testimonia la vitalità artistica dell’epoca. Le figure maschili e femminili rappresentate sono generalmente disposte in coppia e indossano copricapi grotteschi di pennacchi, cartigli, ornamenti auricolari e altre forme organiche, simili ad Arcimboldo nei loro apparentemente illimitati subacquei Le singole immagini dovevano essere ritagliate e assemblate come un grande copricapo fantastico.“Ouvrage Rare et Nouveau” di Boutemie doveva essere molto popolare all'epoca, se nel 1638 l'editore bolognese Agostino Mitelli ne aveva già prodotto una serie analoghe, con alcune tavole derivate proprio dall’opera di Boutemie.Sono noti solo tre set completi (Bologna, Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe; Firenze, Biblioteca Marcelliana; Lipsia, Grassimuseum, Museum für Kunsthandwerk). Apart from a portrait medal, there are only a few surviving works by him and his activity as a goldsmith is only known from archival evidence. Two sets of prints by Boutemie, published in 1636 by Balthasar Moncornet's Parisian publishing house in the Rue des Gobelins, thus provide important information about the style of this elusive artist. As the title-page indicates, “Ouvrage Rare et Nouveau / Contenant plusieurs desseins de merveilleuse / leisure sous diverses caprices et gentilesses / rappresentaes in theustustrieuse decoupure d'un / chappeau, Inventée par D, Boutemie Orfevre ordinaire du Roy, pour the Invention de/ son cabinet… ", it is intended as a complete sample book for “Orfevres, Graveurs, Ciseleurs, Sculpteurs, Menusiers et au- tres" (Jewellers, Engravers, Metal Chasers, Sculptors, Cabinet-makers, and others) and shows an extraordinary variety of fantastic and bizarre ornamental creations. The complete set is a precious and rare document of French printmaking of the fist half of the 17th century- the so-called period of the musketeers - and testifies to the artistic vitality of the period. The male and female figures represented are generally arranged in pairs and wear grotesque headdresses of plumes, cartouches, auricular ornament and other organic forms. The individual images were intended to be cut out and assembled as a large, fantastic head- dress. Boutemie's Ouvrage Rare et Nouveau must have been very popular at the time, because in 1638 the Bolognese publisher Agostino Mitelli had already produced a set of copies. Altogether only three complete sets are known (Bologna, Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe; Florence, Bibliotheca Marcelliana; Leipzig, Grassimuse- um, Museum für Kunsthandwerk).
