L'Autore, Philipp Cluver (1580-1622), di nobile e antica famiglia tedesca, è annoverato fra i geografi celebri. La sua "Introduzione alla geografia generale.", che costituisce il primo tentativo di un trattato sistematico della geografia storica e politica, fu pubblicato per la prima volta a Leida nel 1624, dai celebri editori Elzeviri.L'opera è successivamente ristampata in più edizioni e lingue, per tutto il corso del XVII secolo ed agli inizo del successivo, contenendo un numero sempre crescente di mappe.Incisione in rame, finemente colorata a mano, in ottime condizioni. The author, Philipp Cluver (1580-1622), of a noble and ancient German family, is numbered among the famous geographers. His "Introduction to General Geography", which constitutes the first attempt at a systematic treatise on historical and political geography, was first published in Leiden in 1624, by the famous Elzeviri publishers.The work is subsequently reprinted in several editions and languages throughout the seventeenth century and at the beginning of the next, containing an ever-increasing number of maps.Copperplate with fine later hand colour, in very good conditions.
