Al-Kindi is best known for his two original works, Tasmiyat Wulat Misr (The Count of the Rulers of Egypt) and Al-Qudat (The Judges). Together, they represent one of the most important sources of Egyptian provincial history, its political history and legal institutions during the early Islamic era (from the Islamic conquest of 641 to the death of Muhammad ibn Tughj al-Ikhshid in 946 - with an unexamined author continuing until the arrival of the Fatimids in 969).
