To a woman writer, probably to the novelist Jean Middlemass (1833-1919), requesting a literary contribution: "I should be very happy if you would write me a story of about 3 pages. I enclose a picture but will change it if you give me an idea. Copy wanted by 15 August at latest [.]". - Ross famously created the fictional character Ally Sloper for the British magazine "Judy" in 1867. - With traces of former mounting on the verso.
