Berlin, Gebrüder Paetel, 1883. 8vo (25.1 x 16.7 cm). 271 pp. Contemporary green pebbled half morocco over marled boards. Spine with five raised, gilt-lined bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. = Third, much expanded edition of the famous catalogue, which enumerates all the species in the collection of Friedrich Paetel (1812-1888), one of the largest-ever private shell collections in the world. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the first front free endpaper and title page. A very good, attractively bound copy.
