First edition, [4], 7, [1], 136, [4]pp., coloured engraved frontispiece, some light spotting, recent publishers style boards, printed title label to spine. William Wood, zoologist and surgeon, was born in Kendal in 1774, and educated for the medical profession at St. Bartholomewís Hospital under John Abernethy. Turning his attention early to natural history, he became a fellow of the Linnean Society of London in 1798. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1812. Wood practised till 1815, when he entered into business as a bookseller in the Strand, dealing chiefly in works on natural history. He quitted business in 1840 and went to reside at Ruislip, Middlesex, where he died on 26 May 1857. He was a prolific author of works on natural history. Wood issued three catalogues with a similar title, this 1824 catalogue being the first, followed by catalogues for 1832 and 1834.
