Second edition, with additions, 4to (282 x 209 mm), [8], iv, 5-52pp., inscription to half-title, paper repairs blank gutter margin (not effecting text and mainly restricted to the second portion), some occasional spotting, text lightly browned, later printed wrappers. John Russell RA (1745ñ1806), English painter renowned for his portrait work in oils and pastels, and as a writer and teacher of painting techniques. This work discusses how to make and use crayons (similar to modern pastels) in the eighteenth-century, as well as many recipes for different coloured crayons. The author also discussed other topics such as water colour painting. ESTC locating 4 copies (all in the UK).
