Descrizione

Original illustrated wrappers. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish (Modern). 59, [5] p., richly illustrated (b/w). Exceedingly rare first edition with original illustrated covers of this first Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) biography in the Turkish literature prepared by famous Turkish author Resat Nuri Güntekin. A reversed color example of Ibsen caricature by the Norwegian artist Olaf Leonhard Gulbransson (1873-1958) on the front cover. Immediately after the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey (1923), biographies of the artists and the literary figures who represent modernism and translating the works of these pioneers into Turkish gained momentum. This rare Ibsen biography is one of them. This biography of Henrik Ibsen, one of the founders of modern theater and often referred to as the "father of modernism", whose plays were translated into Ottoman Turkish, was compiled from French sources and made some annotations and additions by Resat Nuri who one of the most significant writers of the Republic of Turkey. Resat Nuri Güntekin was a Turkish novelist, story writer, and playwright. His best-known novel, Çalikusu [i.e. The wren, or the autobiography of a Turkish girl]. Only one copy in OCLC in Bogaziçi University Library of Turkey: 949416014.
