12mo 17 x 12 cm]; [viii], 230, 16 (ads, dated 1859) pp, 12 fine col plates at end (each with guard leaf), includes the half title page. original pictorial gilt cloth, spine with elaborate gilt decorations and title lettering, light wear at spine edges, all edges gilted, clean, unmarked, very good+ condition. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. Freeman 2094. BMNH catalogue p 982. There were many later editions by this author of 'Westward Ho'. The first few editions had no color plates, which are the most interesting feature of the book, being mainly underwater scenes of marine creatures.
Edizione: fourth edition, early editions had no color plates.
