First edition, early printing. Probably the authors' own copy considering the special binding. Extensively illustrated throughout, including drawings by Claire Valentine and with 16 full-page colour maps of the Holy Land through the millennia. Large 8vo, handsomely bound in three-quarter red morocco over red cloth-covered boards, the spine with gilt stippled raised bands creating double-ruled gilt framed compartments, two compartments gilt lettered, gilt date at the tail, t.e.g. x, 850, [4] pp. A very fine copy, a little toning to the blanks and flies only, the text bright and clean and very fresh, the binding solid, attractive and unworn.
