The media can Play an effective role in building up public opinion. In the ultimate analysis, human rights cannot be secured without the active support of a vigilant and enlightened public opinion. The Book `Human Rights in a changing world` has grown out of the deliberations of a National Seminar on HumanRights sponsored by the University Grants Commission and organised by the Department of Political Science of NSS College, Pandalam. The participants of the seminar includes legal luminaries, social scientists, senior administrators, outstanding Journalists and reputed social activists. The various dimensions of human rights have been discussed thredbare by the experts in these papers. The papers cover a wide spectrum from conceptualisation of human rights to protection of human rights. The papers are scientifically classified into four major sections. Papers dealing with the conceptualisation of human rights are included in Section I, while Section II carries papers related to the challenges facing human rights and human rights movement. In Section III are included papers dealing with Environment and human rights while papers discussing protection of human rights find their place in Section IV. The papers included in this volume present a Kaliedoscopic Picture of human rights to the readers. By going through the pages of the book, one gets a synoptic view of the concept of human rights which ultimately determines man`s Relationship with the State and society
