8vo., Second Impression thus, with 23 monochrome plates of drawings by the author; original printed wrappers, sewed as issued, covers lightly age-marked else a clean, firm copy. This seminal work, a true classic of modern ornithology, first appeared as a paper in the Second Annual Report of the [then] Severn Wildfowl Trust, 1948-49. It was first printed separately in 1950; this second impression with important revisions appeared in the following year. An edition with coloured plates was published in 1957
