"Dervish Pasha was one of the most promnentOttoman politicians in the 19th century. Born in Istanbul (Constantinople), he left for Europe to continue his studies in 1836. Following a short sstay in London, he then relocated to Paris where he completed his education. He returned to Isstanbul in 1841 and started teaching chemistry and physics at the Galatasaray School.
