First edition of this scholarly description of the architectural heritage of Damascus by the French oriental scholar Jean Sauvaget (1901-50). Discusses major landmarks of the Syrian capital including the Umayyad Mosque, the Citadel, and al-Adiliyah Madrasa. The plates include plans of the old town, al-Walid mosque, and the house of As'ad-Pacha el-'Azm. - Slight worming to the lower margin of the first third of the volume, otherwise very well preserved. - OCLC 503735864.
