Genève, Henri Kündig, 1905. 8vo (24.0 x 15.5 cm). 135 pp.; 57 text illustrations. Early 20th century green half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt title. Patterned endpapers. = A seldom-seen bound copy of this important work on freshwater phytoplankton. The author, Eugène Penard (1855-1954) was a Swiss biologist and pioneer in systematics of the amoebae (Wikipedia). Neatly signed by the author in the top margin of the title page. Inscribed by a former owner, the Dutch biologist and Rhizopoda specialist Andries A. de Groot (1900-1980), and with a few annotations in an old hand, most probably by de Groot. Otherwise a very good, clean copy.
