Descrizione

Clermont [-Ferrand], Landriot, An XIII (1805). 8vo. ix 459 [iii] pp.; two large, folding tables. Contemporary style half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with five raised bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Speckled edges. = A rather rare work on the volcanos of Central France, published in the form of 45 letters. [Paul-François Lacoste (1755-1826) was a priest who was born at Plaisance, near Toulouse. Presently almost forgotten, he has been teaching natural history in Clermont-Ferrand for twenty years and was additionally the director of the botanical garden of this city. He took also interest in the volcanoes of this province and published two books about them. As a follower of Eugène Patrin (1742-1825), he adhered not unreservedly to some of his somewhat extravagant ideas concerning volcanoes.]” Inscribed by the author on the half title, viz. a dedication to "Monsieur Richin, Architecte", Brown spot in the gutter of the first 60 pp.; otherwise, a good, complete copy. Ward & Carozzi, 1306.
