Jahrhunderts und als Mitbegr�nder der Ikonologie. . Im Juni 1921 wurde ihm die Leitung des Seminars mit Pr�fungserlaubnis �bertragen, erst 1927 wurde er dort ordentlicher Professor. Er lehrte und forschte in Hamburg, unterst�tzt durch das einzigartige Forschungsinstrument der kulturwissenschaftlichen Bibliothek Warburg in enger Verbindung mit deren Leiter Fritz Saxl, bis er nach der nationalsozialistischen Macht�bernahme 1933 auf der Grundlage des Gesetzes zur Wiederherstellung des Berufsbeamtentums entlassen wurde.
