4to. 286, (2) pp. (pages 195f. and 216 are folded). With 2 folded tables. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards with giltstamped spine and spine title. Volume 5 only of the massive 17-volume work on military economics by the High Commissioner of War in Lower Austria, Hübler (1770-1849), published between 1820 and 1823 and considered "an excellent starting point for a history of military everyday life in the first two decades of the 19th century" (cf. Hochedlinger). In the present volume, Hübler discusses the so-called "Moniturs-Commissionen", a total of 8 departments stationed in Stockerau, Prague, Brno, Buda, Graz, Jaroslav, Alba Iulia, and Verona, responsible for providing the Austrian army with equipment in times of war and peace, for securing the availability of medical supplies in field hospitals and for the construction of sufficient beds. It contains numerous tables listing the necessary equipment, the two folded ones showing the demand for leather and cloth products. - With contemporary ownership by the colonel Vinzenz Ferdinand Xaver, baron of Schlechta (1798-1879) to the flyleaf. - Binding rubbed, slightly scuffed, hinges starting. Lower right-hand corners of pp. 105f. and 183f. torn without loss to text. Slightly foxed; some pages slightly creased. From the library of the Viennese collector Werner Habel, with his stamped and signed ownership to front pastedown, dated 1984. - Wurzbach IX, 386f. Hochedlinger, Kleine Quellenkunde zur österreichischen Militärgeschichte 1800-1914, pp. 13f. Cf. Kayser III, 204 (Gerold ed.).
