New edition, small folio, xii, 21, [1]pp., with list of subscribers, large folding engraved chart of Liverpool and Chester harbours, thirty-one engraved charts printed on thick paper, including four partly folding, untrimmed, outer margins lightly dust soiled, recent half calf, marbled boards, spine decorated in blind and gilt, red morocco title label, a nice copy. Originally published by Lewis Morris (1700-1765) and here updated by his son William with 7 additional charts. ìWelsh poet, antiquary and surveyor. As a result of the numerous wrecks and casualties on the Welsh coast, the Admiralty instructed him in 1737 to undertake a new survey. Morris had surveyed the whole of the west coast of Wales by the declaration of war against France in 1744. But the work was fatally interrupted by lack of funds for the project. The partially completed work was published in 1748 as ëPlans of harbours. in the St. Georgeís Channel.
