Descrizione

Washington, DC, The Smithsonian Institute, 1850-1852. Two parts in two. 4to (31.6 x 24.0 cm). 265 pp., 14 finely lithographed plates. Disbound. = Written by the leading American botanist during the 19th century, Asa Gray (1810-1888) Professor of Botany at Harvard University. Gray also accompanied the U.S. Mexican Boundary Survey. The current work, however, is based upon material collected in 1849 by Charles Wright, mainly in the desert of western Texas and southern New Mexico. Published in the series, Smithsonian Contributions to Knowledge. Disbound. The plates are distributed in rather random order between the text pages, but in this exactly following the instructions in 'the explanation of the plates'. Binding slightly cocked, otherwise a good set of the rare original print. Stafleu and Cowan, 2127.
