8vo. pp. 312, [4]ads. original gilt-stamped cloth (spine faded, First Edition. Gurowski took an active part in the 1830 Polish revolution and was condemned to death in absentia. After publishing La VeritÈ sur la Russie in 1835, in which he advocated a panslavic union, Gurowski was pardoned by the Russian authorities. In 1849 he emigrated to the United States, where he wrote the prophetic Russia As It Is.
