Steam Trains of the World was inspired by the travels of two photographers and a journalist, all steam enthusiasts, and the lifelong collection of Colin Garratt, the British archivist and railway expert. Until-now unpublished photographs and information were collected from over ten years of traveling and compiling, and the resulting book is the culmination of dedicated and meticulous research.
From the British Isles and the Middle East, from Russia and China and the Ocean Islands of Australasia, pictures of the highest quality have been included to present a lavish illustration of living steam. Here are facts and tales about the lines operating today, the landscapes they cross and the cargos they haul. Here also are detailed commentaries on the world's magnificent en-gines, documented with a clear guide as to where throughout the world they can be found.
Some of the great stories of rail way building, the adventures, disasters and triumphs during the early years of pioneering are related alongside all the technical detail of engine capacity, size, type and class, with origin of design and the builders' names. Nothing is left out of this world-wide book on the greatest transport form man ever created.
