Descrizione

London, The Office of the Bookworm, 1867. 12 parts in one. 4to (27.0 x 18.0 cm). iv, 192 pp.; numerous text engravings. Original printed wrappers with woodcut vignette. = The rare second volume of a periodical initiated, published, edited and largely written by the French author, art critic, and historian Jean Philibert Berjeau (1809-1891). Berjeau lived in exile after Napoleon III overthrew the second French Republic. His son, Philibert Charles Berjeau (1845-1927) became a natural history illustrator and lithographer. This volume contains, in 12 monthly parts, a series titled "A military bibliomaniac". Another recurrent column is titled "Notices of Printers", and deals with mostly (post) incunable printers. The death of the great French bibliographer Brunet is recorded on pp. 168-169. Uncut. In a later issue the editor disclosed that only 250 copies were printed. Small stamp on front wrapper. Wrappers detached, rear wrapper frayed, with creases and tears; spine cover perished; seems to lack an index, otherwise very good.
