Original printed wrappers. = An important, massive work on the natural history of the Hudson Bay, Canada. As such about the only one thoroughly dealing with an Artctic-Canadian fauna and flora. It deals mainly with the mammals and birds of the largest and most northern of the Hudson Bay's islands, and is seldom found complete. In total it contains three parts, viz. I. General, including an introduction, description of the island, and bibliography; part II, Zoology, with large, well-illustrated chapters on mammals and birds (the latter with fine, full colour plates), and chapters on fish, spiders and various insect groups including Lepidoptera, with a full colour plate, molluscs, and other invertebrates; and Part III, with Algae, Fungi (with a fine full colour plate showing mushrooms), lichenes, bryophytes, and higher plants (Pteridophyta and Spermatophyta). Each part comes with an index. Published in the series, Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum. Largely unopened. The rather flimsy wrappers are loose, with the front wrapper much chipped and spine cover lost. Internally clean. in all a very good copy.
