Einband leicht berieben. - This particular study is concerned with the cultural analysis of the folklore of Ban Nai hamlet in Napa, a village community in the province of Cholburi, Central Thailand. It is an attempt to understand the people's ways of thinking and living as expressed in their oral traditions, namely prose narratives, verses, and songs. These data were collected in the field mainly between October, 1964, and January, 1965. The aims in conducting this field research were: To present for the first time a substantial body of folklore materials collected in depth in a Thai community. To analyze the reflection in folklore of popular religion, ideals, and practices. At the same time, the analysis will touch upon the essence of storytelling in relation to the people's system of ethical and social controls. To examine briefly and state the relationships between the geographical setting and the economic activities which play an important role in popular beliefs.
