8vo., First Edition, on laid paper, some mild offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; original yellow cloth, gilt back, uncut, a very good, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter lightly faded at backstrip. Sitwell's classic study was first published as three separate volumes of which the present work forms the second, succeeding 'The Visit of the Gypsies' (1929) and preceding 'The Fair-Haired Victory' (1930). The three works were combined without change of text in a one-volume edition in the US (Houghton Mifflin, 1929) and the UK (Duckworth, 1938). UNCOMMON IN THIS CONDITION. Fifoot, SA17 (recording all three volumes of the separately published edition).
