Oeuvres des artistes moscovites, 1959-1974.= Schrift-kunst. Werke von Moskauer Buchgestaltern, 1959-1974. Introduction by Yuri Gerchuk. Designed by Maxim Zhukov. English translation by Galina Devyatnikova and Vera Shoob. This album, covering a period of fifteen years (1959-1974), gives a panoramic view of the Soviet art of lettering as represented by fifty-nine Moscow artists. Their views, the tasks they set themselves and their styles differ; the same may be said about their life experience. The time span covered by the album is extended, so to say, by the artists' biographies: some of them are outstanding masters while others are only recent graduates of art colleges. This album, without attempting at an exhaustive reproduction of the work of Moscow artists, tries to reveal the typical features and trends of this specific branch of art in which the shapes and lines of letters reflect the inner world of the master who has created them.
