About the Book:-The author has compiled these humongous 12 volumes of book on the basis of record of matters political, social, historical and personal from 1736 to 1761, translated from the Tamil by the order of the Govt. of Madras. The central point of interest in the portion of the Diary now placed before the reader is the capture of Madras by the French. Ranga Pillai writes, at some length, in an entertaining and instructive manner, and with shrewd comments thereupon, of the many intrigues which took place with regard to the appointment of chief dubash. In addition to matter of this nature, there will be found in these volumes much that is illustrative of men and manners, both European and native, of the India of the period to which it relates. Vol. I covers from 1736 to 1746: 433p, Vol. II:464p, April 1746-Oct. 1746, Vol.III: 508p, Oct.1746-March 1747, Vol. IV: 521p, April 1747-March 1748, Vol. V: 496p, April 1748-Oct 1748, Vol. VI: 494p, Oct. 1748-March 1750, Vol. VII:492p, April 1750, April 1751, Vol. VIII: 303p, May 1751- Dec.1753, Vol. IX: 474p, Sept.1754-Dec. 1755, Vol. X: 452p, Jan. 1756-Dec. 1757, Vol. XI: 510p, Jan. 1757- Jun. 1759, Vol. XII covers from Jan.1760-Dec.1760, 456p. The book has immense value for the students of the history, researchers and common readers.
