8vo., strongly bound in contemporary half calf, pebble-grain cloth boards, back with four raised bands tooled in gilt, second compartment with red leather label ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled with a lozenge in blind, red edges, green endpapers, corners and joints mildly worn and rubbed else a very good, good, tight copy. Following the withdrawal of the two-volume second edition for fear of libel in 1857, the work was first issued as a single volume later in the same year. Nice copy of an early [fifth/sixth?] edition.
