Cape Town, The Philosophical Society of South Africa, 1893-1900. Ten parts in three. 8vo (23.7 x 15.2 cm). 874 pp. [611; 245; 18]; 16 lithographed plates [10; 6; 0]. Uniform contemporary burgundy half calf over marbled boards. Spines with gilt lines and title. Original printed wrappers bound in. = An important series, with many new species and fine illustrations, mainly written by he French-South African entomologist Louis Albert Péringuey (1855-1924). The Part on Pselaphidae was written by the French diplomat and entomologist Achile Marie Jacques Raffray (1844-1923); the last, small part on Lathridiidae was written by the French clergyman Marie-Joseph Paul Belon (1839-1912) and edited by Péringuay. Contained in the Society's Transactions, occupying the whole Volume 7, and parts of Volumes 10 and 11. More parts were published later, some, however, in a different periodical. Leather flaked, boards detached, Internally, however, clean, except for an occasional stamp, and a damp-stain to the lower outer corner of just two plates (apparently from before binding).
