Each painting is roughly 6 by 5 inches including the borders and are done on strong backgrounds of yellow and in rich tones reminiscent of the 17th century Gondarene School, each includes very brief captions or inscriptions Approximately 48 inches long by 6 inches tall, folded in segments in a manner which allows it to be viewed either much like a conventional book or unfolded flat to reveal the entire work at once. Painted on one side of a thick heavy leather parchment in multiple sections joined together. A very attractive picture book with some expected rubbing from use, minor edge wear or mellowing.

Edizione: a pleasing ethiopian manuscript. ten new testament scenes vividly depicted in traditional style. although probably created in the 20th century, it represents a style and artistic tradition many centuries old. the purpose of these large format pictures books in ethiopian culture is not entirely understood, but the vivid depictions accompanied by such a small amount of text clearly indicate they are meant to be a visual aid to devotion. among the new testament scenes in this example are st. george and the dragon, the virgin and child with guardian angles and the betrayal of christ by judas.
