To an unidentified acquaintance, inviting him to a lecture: "Would you not like to hear Professor Huxley [probably the English biologist and anthropologist Thomas Henry Huxley, 1825-95] lecture? He is to give us a Discourse here tomorrow evening on a most interesting subject, and if you would come at a quarter before 9 o'clock and ask the porter who stands on the stair-case and collects the tickets to show you up to the library. I will join you there soon afterwards.
