34 color compositions by Léon Lebègue including the cover, the half-title, the print page, the title frontispiece and 27 pages of text framed by drawings accompanying the texts.
This is not a simple illustrated tale but a commission from Angelo Mariani for advertising purposes for Mariani wine, a preparation made from coca leaves macerated in Bordeaux wine.
The tale attributes to it fortifying effects in an offbeat tone "[…] by a secret influence, he made the young couple, in less than four years, father and mother of six daughters, all of them very lively and very lively."
Edition of 500 copies, here the top copy on Imperial Japan paper.
