Luigi Configliachi, a Barnabite abbot from Milan, was a naturalist and professor of rural economics and natural history at the University of Padua (from 1819). In 1829, he became director of the Padua Agricultural Garden. He was also rector of the university (1836-1837 and 1850-1852). A philanthropist, he worked tirelessly to establish an institute for the blind.
